What Is Foster Care?

Foster Care Is You

Wellspring - group of kids

Foster care is a temporary arrangement in which families provide for the care of a child or children whose birth parent(s) cannot, for a variety of reasons, care for them. Children who are placed with foster families range widely in age, from newborn up to 18 years of age. There currently is a great need for foster parents who will take in teens, siblings, and children who have special emotional, psychological or physical needs.

At Wellspring Lutheran Services, our goal is to reunite foster children with their birth families. We work closely with birth families and foster parents to ensure that, if at all possible, a smooth transition can be made for the child to safely return to his or her birth family.   When reunification is not possible, foster parents often adopt the children placed with them.
